Reviews of Sony’s CableCard PC are trickling in from the usual suspects. ZDnet recently published their own review on the system, comparing it with Velocity Micro’s CineMagix Grand Theater. From the review:
We understand why many people might like a slimmer home theater PC, but Sony’s smaller case also means that you have to sacrifice expandability. The XL3 can only accommodate a single half-height PCI Express graphics card, which comes in the form of a GeForce 7600 GTL card.
The VXG-XLS would be a nice system if it had another tuner and a different video card, like Nvidia’s 8500 GTS. The price seems to be coming down though, with the system being available for just under $2,500 at some internet retailers. Also, keep in mind that the VGX-XL3 may not be able to support 1080p, rather just 1080i.
